about…

I am a psychiatrist who specialises in the provision of psychotherapy. My choice to specialise in psychotherapy arises from working at the limit of the benefits of pharmacotherapy and the observation that the medicalisation of mental health can result in an isolation of symptoms from meaning for an individual.
I currently work with a diversity of presentations in a psychoanalytic and mentalization based framework with the aim of reconnecting individuals with their own experience as a source of meaning and direction in their life.  This approach may address specific mental health problems or more general self-development. I focus on providing longer term insight oriented psychotherapy for those with ongoing or recurrent problems in self, emotion and relationship and the symptoms and problems of living which arise from this.
My early clinical practice included the treatment of severe personality disorder through diverse modalities of psychotherapy including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Mentalization Based Therapy (MBT) and psychoanalytic work.  I have attained an Advanced Certificate in psychodynamic psychotherapy through the RANZCP and am an accredited practitioner of MBT through the British Psychoanalytic Council.
The clinic is a sub-specialty psychotherapy practice.  General psychiatric services including pharmacotherapy are not provided.
